What do we do?
The Counselling Service provides one to one therapeutic work for women with women. We are BACP organisational members and adhere to their code of ethics and practice.
Referrals can be made by individuals or by professionals where an individual agrees to the referral. Following assessment appointments, short, medium and long term counselling contracts are offered on the basis of the assessment outcomes.
Our service aims to be accessible and inclusive, therefore the service is available in the centre and through outreach venues and appointments are arranged to assist women in obtaining the help they need when and where they need it. Our counsellors offer regular appointments, sessions last up to one hour. In addition where possible crèche places may be provided.
All of our counsellors are volunteers and will either be qualified or a trainee counsellor. Whatever her status she will be able to work at an appropriate level of competence. Counsellors receive supervision for their work. If your counsellor needs to discuss her work with you in supervision, then your anonymity will be protected.
We are bound by the centre policy on confidentiality and by the Data Protection Act.
