The Maze Project based in the Domestic Violence Support Team works with adults at risk of social exclusion where domestic violence is a key feature of the relationship.

What do we do?

The Maze Project supports people to make positive change. It works with women who are affected by Domestic Violence, their partners and their children, who are not accessing services that could make a difference to their lives.

The Women's Centre was successful in being awarded one of the 12 national pilots, funded by 4 government departments, to work with Adults facing Chronic Exclusion. Our pilot, the Maze Project, is focusing specifically on adults at risk of chronic exclusion where domestic violence is a key feature.

The Project is staffed by the equivalent of 3 full-time Caseworkers and has been in place since November 2007, going operationally live in January 2008. The service is able to work with up to 30 people at any one time. The Caseworkers work intensively in pairs with service users to help them to identify and remain engaged with services which can best help them to meet their needs, and prevent them from becoming socially excluded.

The service has a male worker so that the service can work with couples who are choosing to remain together; the male worker works with the male partner alongside a female colleague working with the female partner. The service also has a BME worker to provide culturally sensitive support and specialist language skills.
