The Young Persons Accommodation & Support Service Floating Support Worker based in the Domestic Violence Support Team (DVST) provides housing and tenancy related support for young women aged 16-24.
What do we do?
The Young Persons Accommodation & Support Service Floating Support Worker is a joint venture between Horton Housing and Calderdale Women’s Centre. Five members of the YPASS team are based at Horton Housing and one is based in the Domestic Violence Support Team to work specifically with young women. YPASS is for young single people (including pregnant women or young mothers) and couples aged 16-24 in the Calderdale area who are either:
- Roofless
- Homeless (including those in temporary accommodation or staying with friends or family)
- Living in highly inappropriate accommodation; or
- Under threat of losing their tenancy (i.e. through eviction)
And also:
- Vulnerable and in need of support to continue living independently
- Willing and able to agree and engage in support
The Floating Support Worker works with young women to help them to identify and gain access to appropriate housing, to assess their support needs and to provide intensive support for up to two years to help them to maintain their tenancy and prevent homelessness. The Floating Support Worker will also work in partnership with other agencies to ensure that a holistic support package is in place tailored to meet the individual needs of the women and their children. Referrals can be received from women themselves or from other agencies with the woman’s consent.
